When female honey bees are about fifteen days old, tiny flakes of wax secretes from their belly. They use their mouths to sculpt these wax flakes into the hexagonal honeycomb. Beeswax begins colorless and scentless. The golden hue and floral scent varies based on which plant material is harvested by the honey bee.
